Digital Preservation and Archiving Policy
DScholar Press International is committed to ensuring the permanent accessibility, authenticity, and long-term usability of all published academic research. Recognizing the vulnerability of digital formats, we maintain a multi-layered preservation architecture in alignment with international standards set by the Open Archival Information System (OAIS), LOCKSS/CLOCKSS networks, and Crossref.
1. Preservation Strategy & Redundancy
To guard against hardware failure, digital corruption, or systemic disruptions, published assets undergo continuous data verification and geographic redundancy:
- Geographic Server Redundancy: Master copies are mirrored across secure cloud locations with automated daily, weekly, and monthly offsite backups.
- Fixity & File Verification: Regular cryptographic checksum (SHA-256) validations are executed across all repositories to prevent file silent corruption (bit rot) and unrecorded modifications.
- Sustainable File Formats: Manuscripts and supplementary assets are converted into open, non-proprietary preservation standards—primarily PDF/A (archival grade) and structured JATS XML/EPUB3.
2. Persistent Identifiers & Link Integrity
All monographs, edited collection chapters, and research papers receive a permanent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) registered via Crossref. DOIs ensure that even if portal URLs change or system migrations occur, the persistent link resolves directly to the work's primary landing page.
3. Third-Party Dark Archiving & Perpetual Access
DScholar Press International guarantees perpetual access to the scholarly record, even in catastrophic scenarios. Content is systematically ingested into distributed archive networks:
- LOCKSS / CLOCKSS: Distributed preservation protocols allow partner libraries and secure dark archives to harvest, validate, and preserve published volumes.
- Trigger Event Policy: Should DScholar Press International cease publishing operations or experience prolonged service termination, dark archive networks are legally authorized to release published works under Open Access terms to guarantee perpetual reader access.
Author Self-Archiving & Repository Rights:
Authors are permitted to deposit the final published PDF (Publisher's Version) in institutional repositories, subject/field archives (e.g., arXiv, PubMed Central), or personal websites immediately following publication, provided the original DOI link and press citation details are included.
