Author Guidelines

Interested in submitting to the Indian Journal of Higher Education Research (IJHER)? We encourage prospective authors to carefully review the About the Journal page, along with the Aims and Scope, Publication Frequency and Timeline, and all relevant Editorial Policies to ensure alignment with the journal’s expectations. Detailed instructions for manuscript preparation and submission are provided in the Author Guidelines.

Authors must register with the journal before submission. Once registered—or if already registered—they may log in and proceed with the straightforward five-step online submission process.

These guidelines provide detailed instructions for manuscript preparation and submission:

1. Before You Begin

1.1 Ethics in Publishing

All authors must adhere to the journal’s Publication Ethics and Editorial Policies, which follow internationally accepted standards, including COPE guidelines.

1.2 Originality and Submission Declaration

  • Manuscripts must be original and unpublished.

  • Submissions must not be under consideration elsewhere.

  • All authors must approve the submission.

  • Proper permissions must be obtained for copyrighted material.

1.3 Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose conflicts in accordance with the Conflict of Interest Policy.

1.4 Use of AI Tools

Use of AI must be disclosed in line with the Plagiarism and AI Usage Policy.

3. Submission Process

All manuscripts undergo initial editorial screening followed by a Double-Blind Peer Review Process. The Editor may desk-reject submissions that do not meet academic or ethical standards.

7. Peer Review

IJHER follows a rigorous Peer Review Policy including plagiarism screening and double-blind evaluation.

Authors retain copyright. Articles are published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0).

IJHER is a fully open-access journal. All articles are freely available online. See Open Access Policy.


11. Publication Charges

IJHER follows a Zero Fee Policy. No submission or publication charges apply.


12. Withdrawal and Retraction

Policies related to withdrawal, corrections, and retractions are governed by the Withdrawal, Retraction, and Correction Policy.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submission, authors must ensure:

  • The manuscript is original and unpublished

  • The manuscript is in .DOC or .DOCX format
  • Similarity index is below 20%

  • APA 7th edition referencing is followed

  • ORCID iDs are provided

  • Tables and figures are properly labelled

  • Ethical approval (if applicable) is included

  • A conflict of interest statement is included

  • Funding and data availability statements are included

  • DOIs are provided wherever available

Original empirical or theoretical studies contributing new knowledge, using rigorous methodology, data analysis, and scholarly discussion in higher education research.

Review Articles

Comprehensive analyses of existing literature synthesizing trends, gaps, and developments in higher education research to guide future studies and policy.

Policy Analysis

Critical evaluations of higher education policies, reforms, and governance frameworks, assessing their impact, effectiveness, and implications for stakeholders.

Case Studies

In-depth examinations of institutions, programs, or practices highlighting real-world challenges, innovations, and lessons relevant to higher education systems in India.

Book Reviews

Scholarly critiques of recent publications in higher education, assessing relevance, contributions, strengths, and limitations for academic and professional audiences.
